After a very successful first event, J33P have been asked to again host the Scott Williams Memorial Weekend at Seven Sisters (aka Walters Arena) in aid of Teenage Cancer. In 2013 the club raised £1140 however now J33P has been granted “official fund raiser” status, in 2014 Tony "Quick Change" Willetts (read the 2013 event report to see why he has this handle) is setting the bar higher!
Some background, at the age of 14 Scott recovered from a brain tumour operation and carried on with his life without looking back. From here he continued to excel with everything he turned his hand to. Unfortunately just after his 17th Birthday a routine scan showed another tumour. Despite this Scott and his Dad Steve built a challenge truck and competed in many events with Challenge South West, 4x4 Adventures and at the Munster 4x4 Three Peaks Challenge. In March 2007 they ventured North with other members of BWORC for the Muddy Truckers and followed the Bristol team every step of the way and their encouragement helped them lift the 1st Place trophy. Sadly Scott passed away in May 2007, two Months after his 18th Birthday at home with his Parents Steve and Carole, and his sister Jade. With the kind permission of Scott's parents, along the lines of something Scott would have been keen to do, in 2007 members of Bristol and West Offroad Club, in conjunction with 4x4 Adventures started the SWMC to remember Scott and help raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust. After six very successful events, the 2013 event was in doubt due to 4x4 Adventures changing event direction, J33P were approached by Jason Farr and Shaun Harris and asked if we could do something together, after some initial discussions, we ran the 2013 J33P Fun/Scott Williams Memorial Weekend, an event that proved very popular.
For those of you who don’t know Seven Sisters, it is one of the premier offroad sites in the UK and is home to the “King of the Valleys”, one of the toughest UK challenge events. The site is well known to many club members; it offers something for everybody, rock, mud, water and more... Those who have visited the site before always seem to find new areas of the 2500 acre site to explore.
As well as exploring the site, we will be putting out some punches and setting some special stages to keep you occupied.
As usual with summer visits to Seven Sisters, on Saturday night we will be holding one of the Club’s famous (free for all event participants) BBQ’s followed by a charity auction, charity raffle and quiz. We welcome any make or model of 4X4 to join us for the weekend, there is no minimum tyre requirements however we do ask that suitable front and rear recovery points are fitted for this event. If you haven’t been any events before, don’t worry about not fitting in or having fun, several regular members will be available to guide you around.
For those of you have attended a J33P event since 17th July 2013, the event fee will be £85 for the weekend or £60 for a single day – these include a £10 and £5 club subsidised discount respectively. For those of you who have not attended a J33P event the fee is £95 for the weekend or £65 for a single day. Prices that have not risen for a number of years. As usual we will be camping at the Welsh Showcaves, for camping details click here for details.
